Emergency Shelter Program – The Inter-Faith Hospitality Network

Founded in 1989, Inter-Faith’s emergency shelter program provides stays of up to 3 months, and a comprehensive array of support services, for homeless families in Central Montgomery County.

The shelter’s service delivery model is unique and cost-effective. “Host Congregations” serve our families for one month each year at their places of worship.  Families eat and sleep at the congregations in classrooms converted to bedrooms, and congregational volunteers provide meals, childcare, and transportation as needed. In the morning the families return to the agency, where staff provides important counseling, case management and support services.

While it works in partnership with community congregations, the program is non-denominational.
